BLAND HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1957 MEETS FOR 65TH REUNION
The Bland High School Class of 1957 met for its annual reunion on the first
Saturday in August on August 6, 2022 at Shoney’s in Wytheville.
Eight of the surviving 24 members of the class attended.
Pictured (left to right) are
Elizabeth Lambert Stiltner, Larry Dean Pauley, Sally Lambert Edwards, Lanny
McPeak, Ann Hardy Beardshall, Mona Scott May, Kenneth May, Phillip Stowers, and
Jarold Buchanan.
Other attending were Mary Pauley, wife
of Larry Dean Pauley, and her twin sister, Martha Pauley; Doris McPeak, Elmer
Beardshall, Betty Sue Stowers, and Etta Buchanan.
Phyllis Melvin Morehead, wife of our deceased classmate David
Morehead also attended. David
passed this year and he had attended every one of our reunions.
We missed him.
Kenneth May reported on the surviving men who were unable to attend.
They were: Carl Beamer,
Ralph Beamer, Billy Crockett Bowen, Woodrow Dillow, Kenneth Hall, Jimbo Muncy,
Carty Shannon, Billy Strock, Sherman Townley, D. B. Waddle and Dan Wiley.
Ann Hardy Beardshall reported in the surviving women who were unable to attend.
They were Yvonne Durham Bowman, Olena Hooker Cunningham, Thelma Wilson
Owens, and Janeth Bogle Vandendungen.
Jarold and Etta Buchanan prepared a framed memorial to
Helen Penley Hardy, our class sponsor
and my mother. They had presented
this memorial to the Bland County Historical Society earlier in the day and gave
a copy to me. It is beautifully
written and the expression of same is so much appreciated by me and all of my
family.
An expression of thanks was given to Kenneth and Mona May who have held a
reunion for us every year since we graduated with the exception of the pandemic
year of 2020.
The BHS Class of 1957 will plan to gather again the first Saturday in August in
2023.
