The tree planting was a project of students in the 5th Grade Gifted Studies
Program
in Sumrall, taught by Ms. Michelle Ramshur.
Dignitaries included the Mayor of Sumrall, the Longleaf Trace Trail Manager,
and representatives from the Forrest/Lamar Forestry Association
The trees were planted as memorials to the damage suffered by the
Longleaf Trace during hurricane Katrina in 2005. A marker with
inscription will be placed at Sumrall Station.
