Bill Powe was honored at the December 2007 board meeting. The board meeting was held at the newly constructed Lamar County Community Center, which is at Jackson Road, adjacent to the trail.  The BOD presented a resolution to Bill, thanking him for his service to the district as the first Gateway Manager.

RESOLUTION HONORING

BILL POWE

WHEREAS, Bill Powe, husband and father, was employed by the University of Southern Mississippi, Department of Recreational Sports from April 1, 2003 through October 15, 2007, and served as Gateway Manager of the Longleaf Trace during his tenure; and,

WHEREAS, Bill Powe planned and coordinated multiple events along the Longleaf Trace including its annual National Trails Day event and benefits for St. Jude Hospital, the American Heart Association, and other charities; and,

WHEREAS, his work with the University, the Board of Directors and the Friends of the Longleaf Trace fostered growth in the relationships between the entities for the betterment of the Trace; and,

WHEREAS, his service and contributions to the community and the Trace include his preparation and submission of the application for the Longleaf Trace to become a National Recreational Trail; and,

WHEREAS, he was responsible for the public relations and marketing of the Longleaf Trace which resulted multiple speaking engagements, television appearances and the furthering of the benefits of the Trace to the general public; and,

WHEREAS, the Board of Directors of the Pearl and Leaf Rivers Recreational District gathers here with his family and friends to recognize Bill Powe and honor him for his countless hours of work for the betterment of Longleaf Trace and the surrounding Pine Belt; and,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDERED, RESOLVED AND ADJUDICATED by unanimous vote of the Board of Directors of the Pearl and Leaf Rivers Recreational District that all matters, facts, and things hereinabove set out and set forth be the order of the Board and that BILL POWE, be honored for his achievements and outstanding service by the people of Forrest, Lamar and Jefferson Davis Counties with the honor of today's recognition and dedication.

What a nice meeting we had today!  The business went nicely, delicious food and wonderful fellowship.  I feel honored to be a part of a wonderful group working to promote and sustain the wonderful Longleaf Trace.

Kellie, Herlon and the crew went all out to make our meeting and lunch one to remember. Many thanks for all they do every day.

 I appreciated you staying for the pictures.
