2007 Gran Prix – Volunteer Needs Introduction For each race I anticipate we will need 8-10 volunteers, led by a Pacer liaison to the event. We were successful in 2006 in virtually eliminating course inaccuracies -- a huge step in only our second year. Course monitoring, however, was a different story. For the first time it seemed we had runners heading in the wrong direction at a number of races. While the decision to include only recurring events in the series will help this problem as runners will be more familiar with the courses, more volunteers would certainly contribute to a more successful race as well. Gran Prix Volunteers I recommend we attempt to recruit 8-10 volunteers per Gran Prix event. The group will be led by a Pine Belt Pacer liaison that will be responsible, along with the Gran Prix coordinator, for recruiting volunteers for each event. I also recommend that we invoke the rule that a person must volunteer for at least one Gran Prix event to be eligible for a Gran Prix title. In addition I recommend that we eliminate volunteer points toward to the standings. Volunteer Needs I suggest the following are needed in order to improve the Gran Prix series in 2007. A Pacer liaison to each race. This person will help recruit volunteers; ensure that the terms of the Gran Prix agreement are met; attend any organizational meetings for the race; ensure that the basic information about the event is reported to the media; and coordinate the Pacers’ volunteer efforts at the race. A person to work a membership table. This person would be responsible for setting up a table that includes membership information and information on upcoming events. 2-3 people to work the finish line. One person would work the clock and hand-timer. One person would collect finishing tags. One person would enter results into the computer. *Important note: When collecting results we need age and gender information for Gran Prix standings. This group will also see that the results are reported to the appropriate media. A course measurer / lead vehicle. This person will ensure that the course is accurate and appropriately marked with paint or sign arrows. This person, who should as a result have knowledge of the course, will be responsible for driving or riding along with a lead vehicle. Trail vehicle. We need a person to trail the final runners / walkers as we learned in 2006. 2-3 course monitors / extra hands |
