Biking and Walking Lanes

The Mississippi Department of Transportation is considering adding biking and walking lanes in the plans to rebuild bridges on the coast (Ocean Springs to Biloxi and Bay St. Louis to the main Gulf Beach).

I would appreciate it if members of the
Pine Belt Pacers and Hub City Cyclists could get in touch with whatever contacts they have available to them to support this.  Contact with MDOT should be made through Transportation Commissioner Wayne Brown.  He can be reached best via email or cell phone 601-310-0200.

Sample verbage: "I strongly encourage the Mississippi Department of Transportation to include bicycle and walking lanes on all bridges, using see-through barriers, and including biking and walking lanes on roadways to be rebuilt on the Gulf Coast.  The costs of the project will be returned many fold through improved quality of life for the citizens of the coast and the state, and will provide an attractive and desirable draw for tourism.  Furthermore, bike lanes are essential to improve and enhance a multifaceted system of transportation in our great state."

I'll be doing my best on this end.  Thank you for your support.
