A very cool but beautiful morning was the setting for many racers at 8am in Leakesville this past Saturday as they lined up at the start to Race For a Cure. The course began and ended at Greene County Hospital. Most of the course was flat; however there was a small challenge near the halfway mark as we ran/walked down and then back up a very steep boat ramp on the Chickasawhay River. The course was well marked and the race director, Amanda Barnes, did a fantastic job! Justin Bynum was the first to cross the finish line with a time of 19:12. I learned a little something about myself at this race. I HATE WALKING! No offense to all of the walkers out there who do a fabulous job. As I am with “little runner” and entering the third trimester, I have tried to stay physically active and have continued on my regular workout routine, except the running. I miss it terribly and discovered Saturday that walking just takes me too long. I mean, I’m not a fast runner but it certainly beats the 46 minutes it took me to finish this 5k. I AM A RUNNER and cannot wait to get back in those running shoes! On behalf of Amanda Barnes and Greene County Hospital, a Big Thank You to all who participated in this race and contributed to Relay for Life. © Kristy Turner Picture captions: 2 – Charles & Kelton 3 – Amanda Barnes – Race Director 7 – Thomas Williams 15 – Justin Bynum 16 – Jennifer Henderson 17 – Bo Henderson 18 – Douglas Martin 20 – Kelton Turner 21 – Ray Henderson 23 – Thomas Williams 25 – Christy Turner 26 – Wanda Baxter 27 – Frank Barrett 28 – The Hendersons 29 – A Few Pacers 30 – The Turners Pictures © Frank Barrett |
