Saturday, Jan 26, while visiting my daughter's family in Marietta, GA Hollie and I, as well as my daughter and granddaughter ran the Polar Bear 5K. The race lived up to it's name as the weather forecast was for freezing rain/snow at race time. That did not happen, although the temperature was about 34 at the start. I wore long tights, LS dri-fit shirt and gloves and I was very comfortable while running.

Last year I was in pretty good condition and I managed to run 26:42 and win my AG. This year I'm in a phase of getting back in condition and I was hoping to break 28. I ended up running 27:29 which placed me 4th out of 20 in the AG.

Hollie is making a great recovery from the August toe implant surgery. When I told our son, Robin about how well his Father had run, his comment was that I'd better watch out because he'd probably beat me in the next race. I certainly hope so because I know how much he has missed running and how happ y he is to be back and making great progress. I predict that he will run a 22-23 5K by the end of the year. Yesterday he ran 28:58 and placed 9th out of 23 in the AG.

Our daughter (Chrissy) and 10 year old granddaughter (Bailey) do not train to run, but both have great natural ability so they did quite well. Chrissy was 10 of 120 in her AG with a time of 25:09 and Bailey was 7 of 17 with a time of 33:59.

I think there were about 2000 people in the race which is very well managed. I'd recommend it to anyone who is in the area.

The best part of the day was going to breakfast after the race. We went to a local "biscuits and more" type place that was really good.
