Resolution Run 2008 - Round Rock, Texas I went with my family to Austin, Texas to visit some friends during the last days of 2007. I did not think about training anything during vacation time but thought it would be fun if I could participate in a running event on January First. Of course there was no way I would go for an 8am race after enjoying the New Year Eve, eating a delicious midnight dinner, and having a couple of margaritas. However, I could not believe when I checked in the Internet on December 31, looked for races in the vicinity and found a race that would take place on the New Year's Day in Round Rock (30 minutes from Austin) and the best......starting at 11am!! Great news! After sleeping a couple of hours, I took a shower, got some old shoes I kept in the car trunk, and went to Round Rock. I arrived there around 10:20am, registered, got my bib number, and was ready to run. More than 300 runners and walkers gathered in front of St. Phillip Methodist Church to participate in the 2008 edition of the Resolution 5K Run. The morning was sunny but cold with temperatures in the 40's and winds of 10-15 miles/h at the start time. I was a little concerned about the effects of the Christmas extra pounds I was carrying in my belly plus the margaritas, some dancing, little sleep, etc, etc. However, it was not bad at all. I managed to complete the 5K in 21:44; I was 50th overall and fifth in my age group. These people from the Austin area run too fast for me! :) After the race we enjoyed coffee, donuts, black peas, Gatorade, bananas and more coffee. A lot of door prizes were given, but as usual, I did not get any. Did I say we enjoyed a lot of coffee?? This is why I like to run in the winter time! Let's have some coffee! See you guys in the Blues Marathon! Complete results © Pijume Diwesi | |||
