A record crowd (211 runners registered; 163 finished the race!) was present in the 11th edition of the Annual International Run For Love 5K organized by the Southern Miss Recreational Sports staff. The race started at 9am at the USM Gateway under cloudy and cool weather conditions (temperatures in the low 50's; because the wind, it felt it was in the 40's). Pine Belt Pacer John Caleb Grenn was the overall winner with a time of 18:19 followed by 2007 PBP Grandprix winner Terry Lawhead who finished 12 second behind. Third place went to 14-year old McCroy Buteau (19:08). The women race was dominated by Pine Belt Pacer Sheryl Chatfield with a time of 20 minutes. Jenny Green and Alyssa Cairas were the second and third females to cross the finish line.
It was a great opportunity to meet some of new club members. I met Bo and Ray Henderson, Charley Morgan, and some other fellow Pacers. There were many Pacers running the race. You will see some of their faces in the pictures and their names when the official results are posted. Among them, we saw a determined Donna Sumrall coming back to the "race arena". We were also witnesses of the 5K debut of 8-year old Grace Mozingo (32 minutes). They did a great job!! Congratulations!
PBP Jim Coll, Charles Jackson, Dawn Smith, and Kily Garcia did not run but helped the organizers with the timing, results, etc. I felt good today and finished 14th overall in 21:25 (or something like that). I was again the first Colombian in town to cross the finish line! :)
