TGMC 5K Run for Excellence |
Race Report for the May 10th TGMC 5K Run for Excellence and Cajun Food Fest, Houma LA This was among my top 5 all time, most difficult runs that I have completed. I have been following Becky's training schedule and sticking to the program since recovering from pneumonia, but was tempted to run a 5K out of curiousity and some prodding from Charles who really wanted to just check this race/festival out. I ran, he waited at the finish line. My time requirement for myself was between 24 and 25 minutes. I really thought this would be easily accomplished. Well, the first two miles almost killed me, and I really wanted to walk bad that last mile. I was still on target for my goal, but no way would I be able to make it if I walked. I sucked it up and I heard Charles at the finish line yelling, "Sprint, the super hero is going to beat you!" I was thinking, "I am sprinting"! Darn if that super hero didn't run by me like I was standing still. He was dressed from head to toe in a "The Flash" costume and I was beaten by a super hero. Oh, well, I finished in 24:32. I was about 18 seconds behind the Master's winner, but it didn't matter. She could have been 1 second and I couldn't have run any harder than I did. Charles said I was pretty white looking, and actually, as soon as I stopped, I lost that McDonald's chicken sandwich I had eaten 3 hours before. It is amazing to me that your body knows that, ok, you are done running, you can let it all go now. I am going back to my training program for now. Anyway, the conditions for this race were really perfect. It was hot, like I like it, very flat and fast, and well marked. The food festival afterward was unbelievable. There was food of every imaginable kind, fast food, cajun food, oysters, and seafood. There were beverages of every kind imaginable, adult and otherwise. There was a wonderful band and the crowd was well behaved and a lot of fun. The race results at this time have not been posted, but the first place man was 15:41. The first place woman was somewhere between 18 and 19 min. Charles says that he will definitely put this on his list for next year, (and maybe he will run). I hope to do it again next year, and maybe have the opportunity of actually eating all that good food, instead of watching Charles eat it and tell me how good it tasted!! Catch all of you on run!! © Audrey See Results |
