New Hope Baptist Church
Family Enrichment Run/Walk

The 14th annual Family Enrichment Run/Walk was held in Jackson at New Hope Baptist Church on Saturday, August 16. The race started at 7:00 a.m., which is when all races should start during the summer months. We lined up and listened to Jack Ward give the instructions, and then we were off. This is a much easier course than last week's Run For The Son, but it does have one long steep hill. After that one big hill, things are either relatively flat or downhill. The rain started after about fifteen minutes into the race and got steadily harder as time progressed, but it was not the flood that we had for this race a few years ago. Mark Lipking was the first finisher, and Beth Krepac was the first female winner. Gegory Davis was the male Master's winner, and Debbie Cheney, who gave up race walking a few years ago, was the female Master's winner. Phillip Wedgeworth was the male Grand Master's winner, and Monica Baldwin was the female Grand Masters winner. Frank Barrett and Tom Williams were also present to represent the Pine Belt Pacers and won first and third in their age group. After the race we enjoyed grapes, bananas, oranges, and watermelon. Even though this is one of the smaller Mississippi Track Club events, it is very enjoyable. Thanks to everyone who worked hard to put on this race. Results are linked. © Phillip Wedgeworth
