The Meridian Athletic Club Jingle Bell 5K was held on a cold Saturday, December 6 with 151 brave people participating in the 5K and one who was crazy enough to go shirtless in the near freezing temperature, but he, Mike Thrailkill, did win the race. I think everyone was doing well to survive the cold; however, while we were running, most of us didn't worry about the temperature. The Pine Belt Pacers were well represented. Young runner of the year, Bo Henderson, won the one mile. His dad, Ray, won his age group; and Phillip Wedgeworth won the old man age group. The course was a two loop with one steep hill and one long hill that we had to deal with twice. Meridian is a great place to run. Everyone is very friendly. The first person I saw was my good friend, Jerry Parker, who is still running strong at age 78.  It is always good to see Emry Kennedy, Mike Neal, and Jean Long, whom Jerry Parker says is "the Lovely Jean Long." After the race we enjoyed plenty of good food and drink along with great fellowship from fellow runners. Also several people won very nice door prizes although since we were outside, I am not sure where the door was.
