The second edition of "My first 5K" race took place on Saturday, October 26 at the Southern Miss Gateway on the Longleaf Trace. It was another succesful year of this event. More than 120 participants, most of them newbies in the activity, gathered to run/walk the course under cool and sunny weather conditions. Pine Belt Pacer Neil Solomon was the winner in a time of 19:46 followed by local runner Ed Curtis. 13 years-old Kayla Stricker dominated the women race and finished fifth overall. While taking a couple of pictures of some of the participants, and old marathon runner came by after finishing an "easy 18-m long run" in a modest 8:37 min/mile pace. Guess who him was. Everyone shared and enjoyed the experience of his/her first 5K run. Congratulations to the Student Health Services at the University of Southern Mississippi, Forrest General Hospital and Hattiesburg Clinic for a well organized event. Here are some pictures of the participants. Sorry I did not include their names (I knew very few). © Pijume Diwesi |
