Hog Wild 10K, 5K, 5K |
The first ever Hog Wild 10K, 5K, 5K race walk and one-mile run was held on a wet Saturday, April 18 with over 200 people participating in all of the events. Ray, Jennifer, and Bo Henderson and I left Laurel under very questionable weather conditions to drive to Philadelphia. We arrived, picked up our race materials and tried to warm up in the rain. The 10K started at 8:00, and the 5K started five minutes later. The course was very challenging with several small to medium size hills and one very big hill at the finish. Aaron Bradley and Beth Krapec won the 10K, and Mike Thrailkill and Vicki Alexander were the 5K winners. I was talking to Mike after the race about the course. He said that he usually covers the last tenth of a mile of a 5K in about 15 to 20 seconds, but today took over 50 seconds. The Pine Belt Pacers were well represented at this race. Ray, Jennifer, Bo, and I all three go first in our age groups although our times were down over 30 seconds from our usual 5K times. After the race we enjoyed plenty of good food. We had Popeye's chicken, pizza, doughnuts, fruit, sports drink and water. Also the Golden Moon casino people were present and giving away shirts, picture frames and travel bags. This was a very good race--especially for a first race. The organizers did a great job and with chip timing the results were tabulated quickly.
