Sunday, February 8, a group of Pacers made the one hour drive to the Longleaf Horse Trail where the Mississippi Trail 50 will be held. The purpose was to do a "practice run" followed by a picnic. The trail was in very good shape and unless there is significant rain in the days prior to the event, it should be a great place for this very strenuous race.
Pacers who took part were: Audrey and Charles Jackson, Hollie and Becky Ryder, Vicki Copeland, Terry Lawhead, Amber Keene, Dennis Bisnette, Dawn Smith and Ginny Dufrene. There were also a couple of other guys who joined us, but I did not get their names. All of the above, except for the Ryders, ran between 10-12 miles. Becky ran 4 miles and Hollie who is the common sense race walker chose to stay at the campground to guard the food.
By the time the majority finished their run, Hollie, Becky and Terry (who ran the greatest distance and finished first) had begun to lay out the picnic feast. Terry grilled burgers and sausage which were very tasty when combined with the Ryder's most excellent chili. Lots of other tasty food and beverage was consumed and many running and racing tales were shared. What a beautiful day and what a great way to share it with running buddies. © Becky Ryder |
