The Bob Coleman Winter Run was held on the Natchez Trace near Clinton on February 7 with over 265 people participating in the 10K run and 5K walk. The weather was near perfect with temperatures in the upper 40s, which is a big contrast to the years that we have run in the lower 30s and 20s. After the pre-race instructions from MTC race director, Jack Ward, we were off and running. The course is relatively flat and out and back on the Trace. Timothy Farish, who always spends the night before a race painting his legs (see photo), jumped out into the early lead, but he was unable to hold it for the entire race. Sixteen year old William Kazery took over and won easily with a 34.07. Jerry White came in second, over three minutes later. Kristi Hall from Vicksburg was the first female finisher. David Shumate and Teresa Crothers were the Masters winners. Mark Lipking and Zena Keen were the Grand Masters winners, and Lamar Rutledge and Judy Douglass took Senior Grand Masters honors. David Smalley and Carolyn Graham were the race walk winners. Bridgett Jolly, Ray Henderson, and Phillip Wedgeworth represented the Pine Belt Pacers well at this race. Ray was running his first 10K and finished with an excellent time of 43.20. Bridgett got second in her age group, and Phillip was first in his age group. After the race, we had plenty of cookies, fruit, soft drinks, water and sports drink. Much thanks to Jack, Jim, and all of the others who worked so hard to make this race a success. © Phillip Wedgeworth More pictures (Results) (MTC Pix) | |||
