Bluegrass 5k |
October 10, 2009 - Polksville, MS The second annual Bluegrass 5K was held in Polksville, Mississippi on October 10 with a very small crowd of runners present. The 100% humidity and hot temperatures could have kept some people home, but for the dedicated or should I say crazy runners, we showed up even with the threat of rain and we were ready to run. Nobody is any crazier than Mark Lipking who came even though he left as soon as the race was over to travel to go to Evansville, Indiana to run in a half marathon on Sunday (tomorrow). I told him that he should at least stop by home and shower before leaving. Last year he drove dirty, and I am sure that Becky would be glad to wait for him to shower. We all lined up and listened to race director Caleb Hammons give us the directions. Rob Oates was the overall winner even though he pushed his child in a jogging stroller for the entire race. Teresa Crothers was the female winner. Mark Kipking was the Masters winner and Phillip Wedgeworth won the Grand Masters. The Pine Belt Pacers were also represented by Ray and Bo Henderson. Ray won his age group, and Bo won the one-mile run. After the race we enjoyed plenty of fruit, junk food and drink. This was a good, accurate course and a well organized race. Too bad the weather kept so many people home.
