Gordon's Creek 1st Annual 10K (Short Course Version), by Jen Torres - PICTURES
The day dawned as one of the best for racing so far this season. Sunny and cool; with a great air of excitement the runners and walkers gathered to register and set up at the start line. Many Pacers were present, I saw Charles J., Nestor, Laura and Laura, Bob and Betty Press, Don and Cheryl, and Janis, just to name a few. There were tons of volunteers as well. The course was a fun one as it wove it's way through downtown. Apparently a little to wavy as one of the volunteers failed to notify runners of a turn and many of us missed a half mile loop in the course! Actually it was pretty funny to me, but I am sure some folks were aggravated, oh and did I mention the train that got in the way? All in all it was great fun and for a good cause. My plan was to do more of a tempo run and not really race. Of course I did the course faster than planned and ended with a good time for 5.5 miles that is! There was lots of food and drinks afterwards, even a hot dog table with fresh dogs! Yum! I didn't stay for the awards, not sure how they were going to figure that one out... |
