The third annual Hit the Bricks 5K run/walk and one-mile kids run was held in Clinton on July 18 with over 425 people participating in all three events. Luckily the temperature was just a little cooler than what we have had for the last two months. We lined up and listened to the directions and then we were off. Sixteen year old Wiliam Kazery won the 5K with a time of 16.27. Kazery seems to be getting faster in every race. Allen Gearhart was second at 16.52. I found Allen to be rather amusing after the race when he told me that he is "getting old." He is now twenty. Annalee Pierce, who is now seventeen was the winning female. David Shumate and Susan Case won the Masters. Mark Lipking and Debbie Brashier were the Grand Masters winners. Lance Cooper and Donna Gonzales were the race walk winners. The Pine Belt Pacers were well represented with Ray Henderson, Gary Thornton, and Phillip Wedgeworth all placing in their age groups. Also Bo Henderson won his age group in the one-mile run. After the race we had plenty of good food. In addition to the usual fruit, we had chicken biscuits, cookies, and chocolate fudge. © Phillip Wedgeworth |
