Run For Hope - 2009

November 14, 2009 - Pictures

The annual Run for Hope was held in Meridian on November 14 with over 360 people registered for the events, which are held at Bonita Lakes. The race offers something for everyone. There is a 10K run with lots of hills. There is also a 5k run with a couple of hills. Race walkers have a nice two mile course, and there is a one-mile run as well. The 10K and 5K started at the same time. The one mile was run earlier and the race walk started after the 10K and 5K. This sounds a little confusing, but Caleb Hammons with his Mississippi Race Timing used chips to keep everything organized and handled the results without problems. Glenn Killan and Krista Voss were the male and female winners in the 10K. Pine Belt Pacer Richie Sumrall was the male Masters winner and Felicia Brown was the female Masters winner. Eric Pearson and Janice Collins took Grand Masters honors. In the 5K Mike Thrailkill and Keari Lagendyn were the overall winners. Harry Durgin and Vickie Alexander won the Masters, and Mike Neal and Syble Smith were the Gand Masters winners in the 5K. The Pine Belt pacers were also represented by Jennifer Henderson and Phillip Wedgeworth who both won first place in their age groups. The awards were very nice miniature Carousel Horses. Some people won very nice door prizes, but as usual I was not one of them. After the race we enjoyed great food, beverages and friendly fellowship with each other. This is a very good race for a very good cause. Much thanks to Kim Monsour and everyone else who worked so hard to make this race a success.
