The fourth annual Slow Poke 5K in memory of Johnny Bradley was held on August1 in Philadelphia with a good group of runners, walkers, and one-milers who were not afraid to brave the heat, humidity, and hills. We lined up for the race at 7:30 a.m. ,and the heat was bearing down on us. After a few instructions from MTC Race Director, Jack Ward, we were off and running. The course starts at the Philadelphia multi-purpose building and then takes the first right and then the hills start. We ran up and down hills for most of the course. After the race most of the people were complaining about the heat and hills, but we all finished and lived to run again. Kevin Sheehan was the overall winner with a time of 18.10. A few weeks ago, Bridgett Jolly got a new short haircut and won her first overall. For the last three or four weeks she has been running very well. Finally she decided that a new er even shorter haircut might help, so she cut her hair and won her second overall at the Slow Poke. Bryan Lagg was the Masters winner, and Vicki Alexander was the second overall female finisher and the Masters winner. Glen Crotwell and MiHyang Faulks were the Grand Masters winners. Charles Atkins and Phyllis Nowicki were the overall race walk winner. Jim Jolly, Bridgett's husband, was the Masters race walk winner and Pam Nazary was the female Masters race walk winner. Lawrence Clark and Martha Keenum were the Grand Masters race walk winners. Bridgett and Jim's daughter Jewell was the female one-mile run winner, and Stewart Ball was the male winner. The Pine Belt Pacers were well represented at this race. Ray Henderson, Jennifer Henderson, Bo Henderson, Bary Thornton, and Phillip Wedgeworth all won their age groups. After the race we enjoyed plenty of good food, soft drinks, and fruit. Mike Denehaw and others have worked hard to make this a wonderful race experience in honor of Johnny Bradley. Thanks for all of the hard work. Complete results are attached.
