Chevron Ladies' Charity 5k

06/19/2010

The annual Chevron Ladies' Charity 5K Run/Walk was held in Pascagoula on Saturday, June 19 with about 200 people participating in the 5K run/walk and one-mile run. The day was very hot and humid--just as a person would expect in Mississippi in the late spring. We all lined up and got ready for the race instructions from Gulf Coast Runninng Club Race Director Leonard Vergunst. This year the course had to be changed due to road construction, but it was still fairly flat and should have been fast, but the 90 degree weather slowed most of us down a little. Mike Brown, who was pushing two kids in a stroller, edged out Leonard by four seconds for the win. Leonard was the Masters winner. Mark Koch, who has just had a birthday to turn 50, won the Grand Masters, and David Jeffery won the Senior Masters. Leah McBride ran a PR today and was the overall female winner. The Pine Belt Pacers were well represented with the Henderson family and Phillip Wedgeworth. Jennifer was the second overall female race walker, Bo was the second overall in the one-mile run, Ash was second in her age group, and Ray was first in his age group. Phillip was also first in his age group. After the race we had plenty of food, fruit, and drink. The Chevron Ladies' Charity raised about $2500.00 for their cause. Complete results are linked.
