Butler Fest 5k 10/08/2011 |
The third annual Butler Fest 5K Run/Walk and one-mile fun run was held on Saturday, October 8 with near perfect weather for the runners and walkers. After a few instructions form race director Linda Glass and timer Caleb Hammonds, we were off and running on a very challenging course with several rolling hills and one large hill that has been named "throwup hill" by the local runners. Andrew Cargile was the overall winner, followed closely by Ray Henderson who was the Masters Winner. Phillip Wedgeworth came in fourth overall and was the Grand Masters Winner. Jennifer Temple was the female winner, and Serina Williamson was the Masters Winner. Valerie Walton was the female Grand Masters Winner. Pine Belt Pacer members Jennifer Henderson and Larry Sykes were the winners in the race walk. Peggy Wedgeworth was the third overall finisher in the race walk. The Pine Belt Pacers were further represented by the Wargle family, Dennis and Sandy, who were both winners in their age groups. Two women over eighty finished the 5K, which is inspiring. After the race we had plenty of pizza, Subway sandwiches, fruit, and soft drinks. In addition to the race awards, many people won nice door prizes. Complete results can be found on the MS Race Timing Web page. This was a well organized race. Thanks to all of the people in Butler, Alabama for working so hard to make this a success.
