Cherry Blossom Festival
Macon, Georgia

President Demeritus Tony Mozingo and his family traveled to Macon, Georgia over the weekend to renew old acquaintances, visit family, and take part in the annual Cherry Blossom Festival.  Macon, a city rich in history, was host to the third annual marathon and 5K.  The races began and ended on the beautiful campus of Weslyn College.

After visiting with Dr. Charles Wall before the race, (he prefers Charles instead of Chip since receiving his M.D. degree), Mozingo chickened out of the marathon after reviewing the elevation changes along the route.

“Heck, after Birmingham, I may stick to winning the shorter races from now on,” he was quoted as saying.

The eight o’clock start was perfectly timed as the temperature and other weather factors were perfect.  Mozingo blasted out of the starting chute and kept pace with the eventual winner for about 100 yards before fading.  By using his blocking techniques, he was able to place 2nd in his age group, holding off a hard-charging knucklehead in the final seconds.

More than 300 runners participated in the marathon and about 150 in the 5K.  It was a great day for a race.

Back in Hattiesburg, Mozingo is resting comfortably and is in stable condition, according to Dr. Wall.
