Ellisville Harvest Festival  5K

The first ever Ellisville Harvest Festival 5K run was held on October 30 with about 20 runners participating. After a few instructions from the race director, we were off on a new race course that was mainly on the campus of Jones Junior College. Phillip Sullivan and a group of Youth Challenge students took the early lead and looked up for the challenge; however about two miles into the race, Luke Powders and Phillip Wedgeworth were able to catch all but Phillip Sullivan, who seemed to get stronger as the race progressed. Phillip Sullivan finished first followed by Luke Powders and Phillip Wedgeworth. Ray Martin came in fourth. Hosea Carter and Josh Sullivan were the winners in the 20-29 age group. Ray Martin and Nick Haas took honors in the 40-49, and Phillip Wedgeworth, Richard Sims and Charles Slade were the 50-59 age groups winners. Charlotte Slade traveled from Gulfport to be the first female finisher. The after-race refreshments were good and plentiful. Much thanks to Wendy, Lee, Donna, and all of the Rotary Club members who worked hard to put this race on. Also thanks to Jeff Troyka for his work with the clock. The organizers want to make this race an annual event, so mark you calendar for the last Saturday of October 2005 and plan to be in Ellisville. The next local race is the Laurel Fire Department Toys for Tots on November 6.
