The twenty-sixth annual Gulf Coast Classic 10K/2miler
was held on
Saturday, April 17, with about 200 total participants in both events.
This is the second year that the Classic has been at the SeaBee Base in
Gulfport. Yousri Elmejdoubi from Hattiesburg took the early lead and
easily took the victory with a 30:23, which was one second short of a
record for this race. David Keimei and Mike Lally came in second and
third with times of 33:17 and 38:20. The first three females were Connie
Robertson at 39:57, Susan Adams at 43:12, and Christy Leader at 43:58.
Pete Prichard and Linda Sarpy took Masters awards. David Jeffrey and
Laurel's Antha Estridge were the Grand Masters winners. Steve Ulery,
Richard Sims, and Phillip Wedgeworth also represented the Pine Belt
Pacers. Steve and Phillip both placed in their age groups. After the
race everyone enjoyed an assortment of food and drink. Much thanks to
the Gulf Coast Running Club for all of their hard work.
