Heart O Dixie Triathlon

The Heart O Dixie Triathlon took place last Sat. The race starts at Lake Teokata in Louisville Ms. It's a 1/2 mi. swim. Most folks can do it in 14 min. The bike ride leaves the lake and heads down to Philadelphia Ms. 27 mi. You then get off the bike and run (they say 7 mi.) out to the fairgrounds. I say they say because it's only about 6.6 mi. to the finish, Thank God! I say that cause by then it's hot and the course has lots of hills. Anyway after you finish. You get a shower and the usual post race goodies. Then you can walk around and look at the cabins and junk they have for sale. Then you can come back and sit and wait for the awards. After that they give you a ride back to Louisville where your car/truck/SUV awaits you. Oh, they will also haul your bike back for you. They loaded it on a flatbed truck and you pray it doesn't breed with all the other bikes and produce tricycles while it is being bounced around and scratched while they haul it back to the start. I elected to leave mine and pray that I could get back and pick it up before they abandoned it. They said security would stay with them till 1:30. I got back at 2 p.m. and they were still there. I recommend getting some one to drive your car/truck/SUV down to the finish. However my wife went with me a couple of years and said never again. I don't blame her I said that 10 years ago also. however I broke down and relented this year cause a friend of mine wanted to do it cause he had relatives up there and he said he would drive and pay for the gas. The race cost me $75. $55 for the T-shirt {ugly lime green} and $20 bucks for the supper at Lake Teokatta. I bought my buddy's supper. BTW the supper was the best thing about the whole race. The race officials were very kind and helpful plus Terry Wese and Co. did a great job with the timing and posting the results. Check um out at the Mederian running clubs web site. © Bob Clark
