Legal Beagle March 13th, 2004

The Legal Beagle was run in Jackson on March 13 with over 300
participants in the run/walk. As a matter of fact 320 registered early
for the race and several registered on race day. This race is sponsored
by the Jackson Young Lawyers Association, and since lawyers are known
for punctuality, we started at 8:15, not the normal 8:00. One law firm
had over 100 entries. With that many lawyers in one place, a person felt
like he or she needed to run fast to get away from them. Before the race
started, I noticed that the start line was crooked and asked Delbert
Hoseman, a Jackson attorney, about that. He replied that a trial lawyer
had been in charge of the starting line. After a few instructions, Jack
Ward shot the gun and we were off. Brian Pope took the lead and cruised
to an easy win with a 15:22, which is a good time for a 40+ year old
with an injury. Awards were given to the first three male and female
finishers, the first three masters and the first three grand masters.
Mark Lipking was the first masters male. The first grand master was
Carlos Prevost, and Phillip Wedgeworth was the second grand master.
Richard Sims also represented the Pine Belt Pacers well by being first
in his age group. The after race refreshments were good and plentiful.
Much thanks to Jack Ward, Jim Myrick and all of the MTC gang. Complete
results are available at the Mississippi Track Club web site.
