Hattiesburg Swimmers Stallcup
and Sartor Gold Out At State Games
Timberton Swim Team members Ralph
Stallcup and Martha Ray Sartor won a total of 18 gold medals at
the June 26 State Games of Mississippi Masters Swim Meet. The
Timberton Swim Team works out the Family Y in Hattiesburg,
Mississippi. Sartor broke State Game records in the 100 meter
individual medley and the 500 meter freestyle. She received
other gold medals in the 50 and 100 meter freestyle and the 50
meter butterfly. Stallcup received gold medals in the 50 meter
freestyle, backstroke, butterfly, backstroke and the 100 meter
freestyle. Stallcup and Sartor were also members of four gold
medal winning relay teams.
The
swim meet went smooth. Coordinator, Wade Heggie, did an
excellent job. The Meridian Community College swimming facility
is excellent. The cooperative spirit and fellowship of all
participants was very enjoyable and made this event special.
Swimmers ranged from ages 34 to 91. Ms. Catherine Brown (age
91) and Ms. Elzena Johnson (age 89) were the stars of this
year’s swim meet. They continue to awe the crowd with their
flexibility in the water.
Many
of the swimmers had been active on swimming teams as teenagers.
Although, it was the norm . . . you shouldn’t let that keep you
from participating. If you can swim any stroke you should plan
to participate in next years Master Swimmers State Games.
Everyone is welcome. See you next year! © Martha Ray Sartor |
