The Raleigh Heritage Festival 5K run/walk was held on Saturday, September 25 with 19 runners, three walkers, and 5 one-milers. After a few prerace instructions and traffic warnings from race director Wyck Neeley, we were off on possibly the hardest 5K course in Mississippi. The course is an out and back with several rolling hills and the last 3/4 mile up a very big hill. Mark Tullos took the early lead, but he didn't hold it long. John Littich was the overall winner with Phillip Wedgeworth and Richard Sims coming in second and third. Lauren Welch was the first female finisher. Amanda Ward was first in the under 14 female group. Julie Little, Callie Osborn, and Cheryl Johnson were the 15-20 female winners. Jessy Martin was the only 15-20 male. Mark Tullos and Chris Hennis took honors in the 30-39 male. Freddie Grant was the 40-49 winner. In the 50-59 age group Phillip Wedgeworth, Richard Sims and Voldell Yates were the winners. Larry Sykes was the overall walk winner. Theda Massey and Connie Meed finished at the same time for the female walkers. Jessy Martin was the one-mile winner. Thanks to everyone who worked hard to make this run a success.
