Sacred Heart Catholic School 5K

The second annual Sacred Heart Catholic School 5K was held on Saturday,
April 24 with about 50 particpants. After a few instructions from race
director Dave Beckett, we were off. Tony Sanford took the early lead and
never gave it up. Trey Mitchell and Jerry Worley came in second and
third. Bill Gasparrini came up from the coast to take the Masters award.
The first three females were Megan O'Donoghue, Vicki Copeland, and Becky
Ryder. Ellen Weinauer was the female Masters winner. This race seemed to
be a family affair. Five Gasparrinis placed, and three Merciers placed.
The Pine Belt Pacers were represented well. The course was well marked,
but having to cross a railroad track caused some problems when some
runners had to stop for a train. The humidity may have affected some of
our times. Overall this was a good race. Much thanks to everyone who
helped make it a success. See Results. I apologize for not
having times, but they were not given to me. © Phillip Wedgeworth
