The awards await

On February 7, ninety-five 10K runners and forty-two 5K race walkers braved the very cold weather on the Natchez Trace near Clinton to participate in the Bob Coleman Winter Run. After a few instructions from race director Jack Ward, Jack turned things over to Jim Myrick to get the race started. Jack ran the 10K and placed second in the 50-54 age group. Jim has turned into a race walker. After we started the 10K, Jim George took the lead and won with a time of 36:24, which was over three minutes faster than the second finisher. Jim George showed what an old man of 45 can do. Check the results and see the large number of people in their 40s, 50s, and older running--and running well. The first female finisher was Kristi Walski at 45:20. Don Curtis and Felicia Brown were the Masters winners, and Carlos Prevost and Monica Baldwin were the Grand Masters winners. Larry Sykes and Viola Dascus were the winning 5K race walkers. Steven and Kay Moseley made it a family affair winning the Masters in the race walk, and Sam Martin and Donna Gonzales were the Grand Masters winnners in the walk. Martha Rae Sartor, Richard Sims, and Phillip Wedgeworth represented the Pine Belt Area. Phillip was first in his age group, and Richard was third. After the race, everyone was treated to plenty of water, Gator Aide, soft drinks, cookies, fruit, and everyone's favorite Shipley Doughnuts. Much thanks to Jack, Jim, and all of the MTC crew for putting on another very good race. Complete results are attached. © Phillip Wedgeworth.
