Woolmarket Duathlon No. 1

Humid conditions, but overcast skies greeted 127 "athletes" for the first of three duathlons in Woolmarket this summer.  The event Sunday was a 5K run followed by an 11-mile bike on the familiar hilly Mississippi Gulf Coast course.  Future events this summer call for a 2 mile run + 11 mile bike + 2 mile run on June 27 and a 1 mile run + 11 mile bike + 3 mile run on August 1.  Participating Pine Belt Pacers included yours truly, Ed Wheeler, and Bob Clark.  A mechanical problem on the bike cost me a minute or so (it felt like forever) as I had to pull over to the side of the road for a quick chain repair, and I struggled home 41st.  Minutes after re-entering the race, I was passed by Bob (who placed second in his age group), who proceeded to put me away shortly thereafter.  Nevertheless, I enjoyed the race, and plan on attending the next two in the series.  Thanks to the Gulf Coast Running Club for putting on the event. © Jim Coll  Results can be found on their web site
