Arthritis Old Time Festival 5K |
The Arthritis Old Time
Festival 5K run/walk was held on May 14, with about 33
runners and a few walkers participating. After a little
confusion over the starting line, we moved to the bridge and
started at the usual place; however, a lady at the first
right turn told us to go straight, and being obedient people
the first five or six runners ran a couple of extra blocks
before turning around and taking what was then a left turn
to continue the race. Robin Ryder had no trouble catching
everyone and winning the race. The rest of us took a little
while longer to catch up with the ones who didn't obey the
race marshal, who was giving wrong directions. After the
race, Steve Ulery said that he
knew something was wrong when he found himself in the lead
for about a quarter of a mile of the race. Richie Sumrall
finished second. Jerry Worley, who is about to move to
Georgia, was the fourth finisher, and Phillip Wedgeworth
emerged from the fog to find that he was the fifth finisher.
Vicki Copeland added to her career wins by being the first
female. The age groups were most unusual for a race of any
sort. The announcer started with under 12, so I didn't think
much about it until he said males ages 31-60, and then I
thought that was possibly the largest age group range that I
have every been in. The free stuff made up for the unusual
age groups. I have never before seen an insulated coffee cup
that stirs the coffee by a battery operated device. I have
been promised that someone will email me the results, and I
will gladly add them when and if I get them.
