The first annual Chevron Women’s Network Charity 5K Run/ Walk and 1 mile fun run was held Saturday, May 28, 2005 in beautiful Pascagoula, MS with 125 runners/walkers and 14 one mile runners. Phillip Wedgeworth, Bob Clark and Martha Ray Sartor represented the Pine Belt Pacers. There may have been other members, but since I do not have a membership list, I am not sure. Phillip Wedgeworth won the masters. Changing running outfits hasn’t affected his times. I thought maybe he was wearing his burgundy shorts with one stripe for luck! Bob Clark took first in the 55-59 age group. Martha Ray finished in her usual good spirits making many friends along the route while looking at the beach front and architecture. The weather was very warm with few good breezes. The refreshments of oranges, bananas, donuts, Gatorade and water were good. As usual, the Gulf Coast Running Club put on a well organized run. Their friendliness and fellowship encourages me to get up early on Saturdays to run in their races. Next chance I get I will definitely participate in another Gulf Coast Running Club event. © Martha Ray Sartor The first annual Chevron Texaco Women's Network Charity 5K run/walk was held on May 28, at Pascagoula, Mississippi with a very good crowd of runners and walkers on this warm day. Most people thought the day was actually hot, but one person said that we should wait until August to call a day hot. After a few instructions from race director, Leonard Vergunst, we were off running down Beach Blvd. Zachary Wallick jumped out into the early lead and held on to win even though he was pushed hard by the second place finisher and Masters winner Tim McDaniel. Rachel Hawke was the first female finisher and Maureen Kock was the female Masters winner. Phillip Wedgeworth and Maggie Clarkson were the Grand Masters winners. Nick Burrows and Monetta Roberts were the winning Race Walkers. The Pine Belt Pacers were well represented with Ian Bergin and Bob Clark winning their age groups. Martha Ray Sartor also ran and enjoyed the event. This charity run raised over $2000.00 for a local charity. Much thanks to Leonard, Terry, and Pete for putting on a quality race. The next Gulf Coast race in next Saturday at the St. Paul's Seafood Festival in Pass Christian. © Phillip Wedgeworth
