YMCA COTTON CLASSIC 5K

Greenville, MS

Saturday, June 4, 2005, Burtch Davis and Martha Ray Sartor ran in the First Annual YMCA Cotton Classic 5K Run in Greenville, MS. Their slogan was "the flattest race on earth." Other than hot, that pretty much described it. 5k runners, 1 milers, and walkers added up to about 100 participants. The Mississippi Track Club timed the run, therefore everything ran smooth. The officials with the YMCA were accommodating and friendly. There were numerous door prizes and plenty to eat and drink. Burtch placed third in his age group and I placed second in mine. Although I had lived in that area for 17 years, I only ran into one person in the run I knew. When I lived there I don’t remember anybody running because of the mosquitoes during the cool hours or the possibility of being mugged. I think both conditions still exist. See Results.
