The Annual Northeast Courthouse
Celebration 5K Run took place in Jackson, MS on Saturday, June 18, 2005. The flat course and sunny conditions attracted nearly 220 participants this year. It was a little hot and humid but a beautiful day for running. Mark Thorne was the 5K overall winner in a sub five, thirty-mile pace of 16:59. Jim George, the Masters winner, followed him in 17:22 with Tony Mutsune taking the third place with a time of 17:48. Al Waddell was the top Grand Masters in 20:27. Barbara Holcomb won the 5k for the women with a time of 19:30. Her closest competition was local favorite Kristi Walksi in 19:47 with Corrinne Porr placing third at 20:19. Della Hillburn (22:21) and Don Lee Andrews (21:54) were the top Masters and Grand Masters respectively. Debbie Cheney won the 5K Walk competition with a time of 26:55. A familiar face in the area, she has won every single MTC Grand Prix event in the last five years. Second place went to Kay Moseley, the top Masters female, in 30:30 and third place to Tina Branan who finished two seconds behind Kay. Donna Gonzales was the first Grand Masters in 32:31. Bennett Randman was the winner of the male category with a time of 30:01. Nestor Raul Anzola took the Masters award in 33:02 and David Chaney the Grand Masters trophy in 31:02. Lee Moseley won the 1-mile fun race in 6:51. After the race everyone enjoyed the refreshments of bananas, watermelon, cookies, Gatorade, and water. Several people won door prizes, and there was an open house in the racquetball club. Thanks to everyone in the Mississippi Track Club who worked hard to put this race on. See Results
