The tenth annual Kappa
Delta Shamrock run was held on Saturday, March 5, 2005 on
the USM campus with the biggest crowd Hattiesburg has seen
for a 5K race in a long time. A group of 173 registered
runners started the race, which curved through the Southern
Miss campus. This course was a little different from the
most recent runs that have been on campus. Yousri Elmejdoubi
ran at a very comfortable pace and easily won the race.
Robin Ryder came in second and he was closely followed by
Tony Sanford. Rickie Sumrall was the Masters winner, and
Phillip Wedgeworth was able to take the Grand Masters award.
I apologize for not giving much information about the female
runners, but I simply don't know their names. However a
couple that I do know ran well. Kim Ryder added to the
family tradition and placed in the money with a third place
finish. Veteran Vicki Copeland took Masters honors. The Pine
Belt Pacers were also well represented with Jim Coll, Jerry
Worley, Tony Mozingo, Keith Barrett and others running well.
Rather than giving trophies, the awards consisted of gift
certificates to various businesses in the Hattiesburg area.
The after race refreshments consisted of soft drinks,
bananas, water, and home made brownies. Thanks to everyone
who worked hard to put this race on.
