The Annual Legal Beagle 5K Run/Walk and Fun Run was held in Jackson, MS on Saturday March 12 under perfect weather conditions, temperatures in the 50’s and sunny sky. More than 235 runners and 175 walkers competed in the event. Calvin Thigpen separated himself from the field as the overall winner with a time of 17 minutes, 03 seconds. Anthony Martin finished second in 18:00 and Robert Van Uden was third in 18:31. Gabrielle Ott was the first female to cross the finish line with a time of 20:32, eight seconds ahead of Yolanda Brown (20:30). Amy Macon was third in 22:15. Debbie Cheney and David Chaney were the first walkers to complete the 3.1- mile course in their respective divisions. Debbie finished in 27:20, while David posted a time of 30:52. Lee Moseley was the overall winner in the 1-mile fun run finishing in 6:30, while Trevene Cowan topped the competition in the female category with a time of 8:36. Larry Sykes and Nestor Raul Anzola represented the Pine Belt Pacers. Larry placed first in his age category while Raul was the Masters winner, both in the 5K-walk event. After the race, there was plenty of food, refreshment and door prizes for some lucky runners. The race was sponsored by the Jackson Young Lawyers Association.
