Biloxi Mayor's Cup 5K Run/Walk

The twenty-second annual Biloxi Mayor's Cup 5K Run/Walk and one-miler was held on November 19 at a new location due to Hurricane Katrina. This was the second post-Katrina race and the second race with a double loop, so if we missed any of the view on the first run through, we could see it on the second. About 100 people participated in the events. In addition to the runners it was good to see Ed Wheeler as the guest race starter. Ed got a new heart valve less than two weeks ago. To look at him one would never know that he had major surgery. Leonard gave a few instructions and then lead the runners on his bike. Chad Campbell won with a time of 16:08, which was forty seconds faster than the second place finisher, Inder Sehgal who won the Masters trophy. Bill Gasparrini was the Grand Masters winner. Carole Smith was the female winner with a 21:15. Maureen Koch and Peggy Gore took Masters and Grand Masters honors. The Pine Belt Pacers were well represented in today's race. Ron Williams, Nestor Raul Anzola, Martha Ray Sartor, and Phillip Wedgeworth all traveled to the Coast to represent the PBP club. Several members who live on the Coast were also present. After the race we had fruit, soft drinks, water, and Martha Ray's favorite beer. Thanks to Leonard and the gang for putting on another quality event. Results are linked
