HATTIESBURG
ATHLETES |
Brandon Guillory, Robin “Speedy Ryder”, Russ Lark and I traveled to Chalmette La., on Sunday 4/3/05 to participate in the 31st Pelicanman duathlon. This race consists of a two mile run, ten mile bike, and another two mile run. This was a fairly competitive event with about 200 entrants. Of course Brandon and Speedy were confident in their ability to dominate the race both being former college runners. Russ and I were less sure since we both sat on the couch and went to football games in college. When the gun went off Brandon and Robin got out in the lead pack while Russ and I tagged along behind . Robin has made big improvements on the bike and Russ and I did not catch him until the 8 or 9 mile point. I started the last two mile run feeling good until Speedy came around me about a quarter mile into the last leg. Next as I approached the turn around I saw Brandon blazing back the other way running third overall. Brandon maintained his place in third finishing in around 51 min. Do the math folks, that’s FAST. Robin in only his second season as a multisport athlete was 10th overall and first in his age group. Russ was 27th overall and held up the tradition of fine Clydesdale athletes from this area like Mike Villalonga and Chris Boyd to get 2nd in the “Big Bird” division. Even I was able to hold up my end with 17th overall and 2nd in my age group. I am glad I recently got a bigger truck. If not we would have had a hard time with all the hardware. We invite you to come join us for a multisport event this spring or summer . But be warned these guys that did more than skip class and chase girls in college are FAST. © Michael R. Barnes |
