YMCA Anniversary Celebration 5K

The 2005 YMCA Anniversary Celebration 5K run was held on Saturday, April 9, 2005 with about 55 people participating in the event. This was possibly the hardest 5K course in the state of Mississippi. We started in the parking lot of the "Y" and ran up and down hills for most of the race. Tony Sanford took the early lead and never was challenged by anyone. Tony's winning time was a very fast 16:59. The second place finisher was Eric Burch with a time of 18:36. Pine Belt Pacer President, Jim Coll, was the third finisher with an impressive 19:02. Gary Filpi was the Masters winner, and Phillip Wedgeworth was the Grand Masters winner. Joni Dunbar was the first female with a time of 22:17. Doris Burns was the second female at 26:09. The Masters female was Judy Baker, and Shannon Holder was the Grand Masters female. After the race, most people were discussing the difficulty of the course. Keith Barrett and Ray Martin were trying to guess how much faster everyone would have been on a flatter course. After the race we had Power Aid and Bananas for snacks. Thanks to everyone who worked hard to put the race on. See Results.
