Philadelphia, PA

While at a national meeting in Philadelphia, PA I participated in the September 25th Parkway 5K Run. Money raised is being used for children’s cancer research. The U.S.A.T.F. certified Grand Prix Circuit went down the Benjamin Franklin Parkway and along the West River Drive. There were water stations at the one and two mile mark. Chip timing was provided. The course went by the Philadelphia Museum of Art (Rocky movie steps) and by scenic boat houses. After the race breakfast was served to the _____ participants. Breakfast items included scrambled eggs, quiche, sausage, bagels, orange/apple juice, milk and lots of other items.

I learned about the race when I woke up that morning and looked at the window and noticed lots of people on the streets in running shorts. Quickly I changed into my running clothes, grabbed a Fig Newton, ran down to the street, registered, got in line and the starting gun fired. Yes, it was really that quick. Had they not had started ten minutes late, I would have missed it.

It was a fun race. Results can be found at www.parkwayrun.com. Elmer says that the Benjamin Franklin Parkway is his old stomping (I mean running) ground.
