Sponsored
by the Pine Belt Pacers and the University
of Southern Mississippi
with proceeds
to go toward the purchase of a digital race clock
and race
timing equipment.
The Race for the Clock fundraiser was held
at USM's track on Saturday, April 16. Over
20 people attended the event with 13
actually running and walking for 30 or 60
minutes. A total of $397 was donated toward
the purchase of the clock and other timing
equipment.
Special recognition goes to our younger
runners, Robert Mozingo (age 9) and Jim
Green (age 10), who continue to improve with
each race. Jim ran over 3.25 miles and
Robert was just short of 3 miles.
Robin Ryder surpassed his stated goal of
running at least 10 miles in 60 minutes. The
track is 400 meters in length and by my
calculations he needed to do 40 laps plus
about 306 feet. He covered 40 laps plus 997
feet. Thus, he was way ahead of his goal.
All you math pros correct me if I am wrong.
Vicki Copeland and Dawn Smith cruised to the
"win" for the women as they ran the entire
distance together. They covered just over
6.5 miles during the 60 minute time period.
Results for the 60 minute run:
1. Robin Ryder - 40 laps plus 997 feet
2. Keith Barrett - 32 laps plus 1154 feet
3. Steve Ulery - 30 laps plus 658 feet
4. Vicki Copeland - 26 laps plus 42 feet
5. Dawn Smith - 26 laps
plus 42 feet
