Pine Belt Pacers Relays
Saturday May 21, 9 am

A large crowd showed up at 9 Saturday to participate in the Pine Belt Relays. Some events had over 30 people in them and all events were hotly contested. Over $450 was raised to help support the USM track teams. Many thanks to sponsors Coca-Cola, Soccer Locker and City Runners, Firehouse Subs, Corner market, Hattiesburg Bicycle Center, and the USM Athletic Department for donating supplies and door prizes. Read the bottom of the page to find out how the Relays were set up, and what the door prizes were.

Three-hundred fifty dollars. That's how much we raised for the Southern Miss Track and Field program through the Pine Belt Pacer Relays on Saturday.  It was a good start to what I hope is an annual event.

President Jim Coll presents the check to USM Track Coach Wayne Williams

I thank you so much for your participation and your enthusiasm; we had a full eight teams and almost 50 entrants.  Special thanks goes out to the team captains who helped recruit team members, all of those who assisted with the scoring and officiating of the events and organization of the Relays, especially my wife, Deedre', Deb Osteen, Dawn Smith, Elmer and Ann Beardshall, Hana Prudilova  and Andy Addison for assisting with the setup. Please keep in mind and patronize those businesses which helped support the event. Those businesses include Soccer Locker & City Runners, Firehouse Subs, the Corner Market and Hattiesburg Bicycle Center.
While I already have a few changes in mind for next year, I welcome your input. Please let me know what we do to improve the event.

The Orange Crushes got the most uniform uniform award

About the relays:

1. Teams may consist of 4-6 people, and each person may participate in up to five events.

2. For each event completed, the individual earns two points per team. For relays completed, the team will earn four points.  Additional points will be awarded based on finish (the number of positions and points awarded will be determined based on the number of teams participating in the Pine Belt Pacer Relays).

3. In lieu of spending money on t-shirts (since this is a fund-raiser), the club has decided to have another t-shirt swap. Please bring any race t-shirts you are willing to part with to the track that morning.

4. Prizes will be awarded based on both participation and finish.  All participants will be eligible for prizes, but chances of winning will increase based on finish.  Each entrant will have one chance of winning; members of the third place team will receive one additional chance; members of the second place team will receive two additional chances, and members of the first place team will receive three additional chances

Looking forward to seeing each of you on Saturday.
Jim
