The seventeenth
annual Summer Beach Run was held in Pass Christian on
Saturday, August 6, with 183 people finishing the 5K race
and only nine one-milers. After a few race instructions, we
were off. The run fairly quickly turned into a two man race
with Gordon Fisher eventually winning with a time of 15:32
and Kly Lewis coming in at 15:46. Third place finisher,
Cameron Vincent wasn't slow either with a 16:26, and Max
Lemmons was right behind him at 16:48. The top three females
were Nicole Rosetti, Katie Pavolo, and Susan Adams. Tim
Cooley and Maureen Koch were the Masters winners, and Bill
Gasparrini and Marcia Finkel were the Grandmasters winners.
Ed Wheeler, Bob Clark, Martha Ray Sartor, Burch Davis, Chuck
Gatzman and Phillip Wedgeworth represented the Pine Belt
Pacers at this event. Phillip was first in his age group and
Bob was second in his. The other PBPers had a great time.
Martha Ray says that the free beer is worth the trip down
from Hattiesburg. This was a great race and the temperature
might have been a half degree cooler than last year. We were
lucky to have clouds for most of the race, but the 100%
humidity was tough. After the race we had sandwichs, fruit,
cookies, water, soft drinks, and plenty of cold beer. Much
thanks to Leonard, Terry, Denise, and Danny for putting on
