I've been in Atlanta all week doing the Grandparent duties of tending to my 8 year old granddaughter while her parents are in Chicago. The weather has not been that great the past few days, but in general I've been able to keep up with my running.

This morning I ran in a 5K called Virginia Highlands. There were about 600 runners and I finished 75th out of about 250-300 women. Benji Durden who is a very good Atlanta area runner had told me that the course would be hilly and in my opinion, that was an understatement. The course started with a downhill, then went up and down several times until just after mile 2 when we had a hill that was so steep that I almost gave in and walked it. But, I struggled through to the top and then we did some more ups and downs with a downhill finish.  My time of 28:14 was certainly slower than my 5k of two weeks ago when I ran 26:48. But, considering the toughness of the hills and my lack of sleep this week, I was pleased that I won the 60-64 AG and got a nice plaque and sweatshirt ( in addition to a nice LS shirt that all registrants got.)

National Masters and World Masters record holder, Jeanne Daprano who is 69 and lives in the Atlanta area. That *has* to be the reason that she kicked my butt as she ran 26:40 for the 5K distance. She and I did our cooldown together and she then gave me her email, etc and I'll probably try to run with her sometime when I'm back in Atlanta. Maybe some of her speed will rub off on me.
