Run to the
Greater Belhaven Market 5K

The Run to the Greater Belhaven Market 5K took place in Jackson on September 9, 2006.  This is one of the most challenging races in the Jackson area.  Runners go up and down since the beginning of the race.  It is great for your knees!  Eighty-four runners and thirty-seven walkers gathered to compete on a tortuous but fun course.

Miles Martin was the overall winner of the 5K run in 18:16.  Jeremy Patrick was second in 19:54, and Masters winner, Mark Lipking finished third one second behind Patrick.  Dorothy Boone was the first female in 20:38 followed by Amy Rutherford (21:44) and top Grand Masters Mary Lohrenz in 22:53.

I competed in the 5K walk and finally claimed my first victory in an event in Jackson finishing the race in 32:20 and setting a new PR for the distance.  Pine Belt Pacer Larry Sykes was second overall in 32:31.  Elizabeth Joyner was the first female in 33:49 followed by Carolyn Graham who finished in 33:56.

Thanks to the Mississippi Track Club for a very well organized race and to the people of the Greater Belhaven Market who donated the money awards for the ceremony.  I highly recommend this race for those who are looking for challenging hilly courses.  Complete results
