The triathlon season kicked off on Sunday May 7, 2006 in South Louisiana with the Crawfishman triathlon which was held in Bush La. Because the “ big guns” Villalonga, Ryder, Pendergrass and Mozingo were saving their legs for the half ironman in Panama City on Sat. local participation was almost nothing. I along with Chris Boyd (he is moving back to town) and Shaun Hampton tried to defend the honor of the pinebelt. The race was a 1000 yard swim, 20 mile bike, and 4 mile run. About 240 racers finished the event. Shaun, who had not raced in a few years did well with a time of 1:52:23. Chris won the Clydesdale division and was an impressive 11th overall in a time of 1:31:15. I was even able to put a good race together for 3rd in the 40-45 age group and 18th overall. We will see if the “ big guns” saved enough of their legs to beat me in Florida. If so at least I have a good excuse. Right? If not they sure missed a good race. Hope to see more Pinebelt Pacers (  this means you Jim) next time.
