11th ANNUAL EAGLE 5K Run |
I vote Raoul Nesters race report of the
homecoming 5K in Hattiesburg best race report of
the year. BC
A numerous group of people participated in the 11th Annual Eagle 5K hosted by The University of Southern Miss Student Sports Medicine Association in conjunction with the Homecoming events on Saturday October 14, 2006. It was a sunny but very cold day in the early morning hours. The Race began at 7:30 a.m. on Sunset Drive near the Polymer Science Building, went through different streets on the USM Campus, and had the finish line in the south end zone of M.M. Roberts Stadium. Someone gave a couple of instructions before the race and the gun went off. Some runners started really, really, really fast, and some others didn't. Some jogged and there were even a couple of fellows who walked the entire 5K distance (I think so; I was not there!). Several volunteers guided the runners along the course.
A fast guy won the 5K and
many people followed him. His time was under 20
minutes. I did not win it (I was not there!). Many
people were happy with their times and some got a
PR. I didn't get any since I didn't run the race (I
was not there!). Some others were dissapointed with
their finish times but will be back to improve
them. The overall winner in the female category was
a very very very fast girl who overpowered her
opponents. Her time was under 20, maybe 21, 22, 23
or 24 minutes (I was not there!). Anyway, she was
fast, and she got a nice award for her
commitment. A runner with some wrinkles and gray
hair got the award for being the fastest runner in
the Masters category. Some nice good looking lady
got the award to the top Masters female. I didn't
get anything... I was not there!
After the race, everyone
enjoyed some water, gatorade, fruit and maybe
something else (I don't know, I wasn't there!). The
Pine Belt Pacers Club was well represented; some
of its members, both men and women, placed first or
second in some of the age groups. Everyone got a
free t-shirt, and everyone went home after the race,
and for sure right before his/her car were towed
away from the USM Campus. Everyone enjoyed the
wonderful Saturday weather and was very happy
because USM defeated Houston 31-27 in the Homecoming
football game. The official results of the 5K run
will appear somewhere soon. Congratulations to
everybody who participated in the race. See you
next year in the 12th edition. Sorry for wasting
your valuable and precious time with this silly
race report but...... sorry! I was not there! :) ©
